The 11 Best Restaurants in Mahé, Seychelles

From The Authors: Gaelle was born and raised in the Seychelles while Viktor has been living here for 1+ year. Unlike many other travel blogs, we actually have first-hand knowledge and experience of the places we write about. If you have any questions, we respond quickly to comments!

The Seychelles is home to some of the best restaurants you’ll ever get to experience. Whether you want to experience local food or foreign cuisines – there’s something for everyone.

In this article, we’ll cover the 11 best restaurants that Mahé, the Seychelles’ biggest island, has to offer.

Feeling a particular type of cuisine? Then select it below.

🤤 Best Overall: Maria’s Rock Cafe

We went to Maria’s Rock Cafe for the first time back in 2018 – and have been regulars ever since.

It combines everything we love about this island, ranging from its unique location to some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste.

The food itself is served raw, and customers are provided with a hot stone to cook it as they wish (alongside rice and a salad).

We promise you that anything you order from the hot stone, whether it’s the fish filet, prawns, or mixed meats, will taste absolutely delicious.

🏝️ Best Seychellois Food: Boat House

Boat House is located right in front of Beau Vallon beach, providing eaters with a refreshing ocean breeze and even better local food.

What we can particularly recommend is the evening buffet (starting at 7 pm), which consists of freshly caught fish and locally grown veggies.

Boat House, apart from the food menu, is also a great place to have a drink (or two) while enjoying the beautiful Beau Vallon sunset.

Insider tip: there’s a small ice cream shop, run by two Italian ladies, next to Boat House. They sell authentic Italian ice cream, so give it a try if you wrapped up your lunch.

🍴 Best Fine Dining: Mango House

Mango House is a resort located in the southwest of Mahé. Luckily, you don’t have to be a guest to enjoy some of the finest meals on the island.

What immediately stands out is the service quality, which isn’t surprising given that Mango House is a 5-star hotel.

Plus, the resort offers a variety of different restaurants and cuisines, ranging from Japanese (Azido) to local creole food (Moutya).

🌱 Best Vegetarian: Wildflour Cafe

Wildflour Cafe is nested in the heart of Victoria’s Botanical Garden, which is also one of the activities we recommend for anyone visiting Mahé.

It not only makes for the perfect pit stop for those visiting the Botanical Garden but the food itself is delicious as well. And that certainly means something coming from meat lovers like us.

Plus, the ambiance of the cafe is super relaxing as it’s located from the common walking paths of the Botanical Garden, making it a great spot to relax for an hour or two.

🍕 Best Pizza: Baobab Pizzeria

baobab pizzeria

Baobab has been a staple among locals and tourists for almost four decades. Established in the late 1980s, it’s known for its delicious pizzas and pastas – and one of the reasons why we love hanging out at Beau Vallon beach.

While Gaelle is a fan of the Quatro Stagioni, Viktor normally picks the Maison. The Calamari Rings are a great option for starters as well.

What we particularly love about Baobab is its affordability. Despite being located in one of Mahé’s busiest areas, its prices have largely sane.

🍔 Best Burger: Leo’s Food Bus

leo's food bus

Don’t be fooled by Leo’s rather sparse appearance. Despite serving the food out of a small truck, the burgers they serve are some of the best we had (and we visited over 50 different countries combined!).

Leo’s is present across four spots on Mahé, operating two trucks in Victoria, one in Beau Vallon (the one pictured above), and the fourth at Anse Royale (and even one on Praslin).

Apart from the Bacon Cheeseburger, which we both eat a criminally high amount of, we can also recommend the Steak & Chips.

🥢 Best Sushi: Club Liberté

Now, you may be wondering whether we are some sort of degenerate gambling couple. But no, Club Liberté, which is part casino, part restaurant, truly offers the best sushi on the island.

We’ve been here multiple times for all kinds of occasions, ranging from date nights to birthdays – and it never disappoints.

Literally every sushi we tried tasted delicious, although the Tuna Nigiri, Crispy Prawn Maki Rolls, and Salmon Maki are standouts.

Insider tip: if you go on Tuesday, then all sushi options are discounted by 15%!

🍝 Best Italian Food: La Perle Noire

La Perle Noire, located in the Beau Vallon district, is run by two Italian brothers who brought over their cuisine and infused it with local ingredients.

Not only is the food out of this world (Gaelle’s family has been going for years), but the whole ambiance of the place is incredible.

That said, do make sure to call in and reserve a table. The restaurant is frequently booked out, which speaks to the great food they serve.

🕌 Best Indian Food: The Maharajas

the mahajaras

The Maharajas, located on Eden Island, is one of the more upscale options on this list. That said, if you want truly authentic Indian cuisine, then this is the place to go.

We have been dining at Maharajas a handful of times and can truly anything on the money, whether that includes meat or vegetarian options.

Plus, the restaurant is located in the front of the marina, providing diners with some great views of the island’s most impressive boats.

🤑 Best Bang For Your Buck: Bravo

bravo eden island

Bravo is another Eden Island restaurant we love. In fact, it’s located directly next to The Mahajaras, so the views and space are also impeccable.

However, what we truly appreciate about Bravo are the portion sizes. Don’t get us wrong, the prices may not be the cheapest (as is common in the Seychelles), but the portions absolutely make up for it.

Viktor normally orders the Spicy Creamy Chicken, which’ll fill you up for the entire day. And if you want something truly picture/video-worthy, order the Killer Prawns.

🌄 Best Views: Del Place

Want to get those sweet, sweet Instagram likes while still enjoying delicious meals? Then Del Place Restaurant should be your dining spot of choice.

It’s located directly off of Mahé’s west coast, offering views of Anse L’Islette island (pictured above). And if you’re lucky, you can even see fisherman catching the food they then sell to the restaurant.

Another highlight of Del Place is the live music, particularly on Saturday evening when the staff organizes a cocktail show while cooking the food right at your table.
